China refutes US allegations about so-called 'meddling in elections'

BEIJING, July 17 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson on Friday refuted relevant allegations by the United States about the so-called "meddling in elections," calling them completely groundless and malicious smears, which have long been proven nonsense.

Spokesperson Lin Jian made the remarks at a daily press briefing in response to a related query.

Lin said China adheres to non-interference in other countries' internal affairs. China never interferes in U.S. elections and has zero interest in that.

The world has actually been witnessing who exactly has wantonly interfered in other countries' internal affairs, long conducted indiscriminate surveillance on governments, businesses and the general public worldwide, and snatched massive data of foreign citizens, said Lin.

"We urge the U.S. to reflect on its behavior, stop vilifying China and framing China for election purpose, and act in ways conducive to China-U.S. relations," Lin added.
